Mark Steuer Gets Pickled at This Weekend’s Dose Market

Mark Steuer and Clint Rogers had an idea for opening a pickle bar— a place where everything on the menu would come pickled (and you could get that way, too). Instead, Steuer is chef at The Bedford and Rogers is mixologist for The Gage and Henri. But pickle dreams don’t die; they’re preserved. And so Pickled pickles pop up promptly this weekend at the pre-Valentine’s Day Dose Market, along with cocktails in which pickled stuff makes an appearance, like the Colonel Kurtz, gin, lemon, pickled ginger syrup, lemongrass-pickled chilies and soda. (We hear it tastes like victory.) There will be six different pickled things to take home, like hakurei turnups with rice vinegar, ginger, Thai chili and basil seeds. Also debuting among the food vendors this time is Celestial Kitchens, with cookies, handpies, petits-fours and more; Theo Gilbert’s restaurant Ripasso with hot handmade pasta and meals for two; a Spanish market of snacks and pantry items from Mark Mendez (Vera) and JDY Imports; and lots more. The market will be at the River East Art Center Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.; more about the food choices is here.
