No doubt Philly’s long overdue for a tiki fix. And now just as the Polynesian tip begins to wane elsewhere, it seems as if we are about to finally get our first tastes of it. Meal Ticket reports that Matt Scheller and Matt and Colleen Swartz, the crew behind Farmers’ Cabinet have signed a lease on 600 Spring Garden, the sprawling space that’s housed clubs 90 Degrees, Transit and The Bank over the years, where they intend to create a South Pacific-inspired bar in the basement. Cabinet fixtures, Phoebe Esmon and Christian Gaal will reportedly channel Trader Vic’s in the form of cocktails, while a kitchen staff will serve up a pan-Asian spread.
Upstairs on the main floor, there’s plans to build out a large beer hall that will serve a southern barbecue menu, according to the Insider. And on the third floor, a nano-brewery (where have we heard that before?) and distillery are supposedly going in. Here’s hoping this news doesn’t spell the end for Farmers’ Cabinet, which saw the simultaneous closings of its owners’ other businesses Fork & Barrel in East Falls and Tap & Table in Emmaus, PA shortly after its launch.
