Severe Vermin Situation Shuts Down 30-Year-Old Chinatown Restaurant

The health department took the rare step recently of revoking the operating license for Hing Lung, the 30-year-old jook joint at 674 Broadway, due to “several recurring violations, including a severe cockroach and rat infestation and unsafe food handling facilities.” Inspectors had, in fact, cited the place so often that they just couldn’t take it anymore, and Hing Lung will thus be closed for at least six months, as SFoodie reports. Jonathan Kauffman may be mourning the loss of his favorite rice porridge, but we’d prefer ours sans cockroaches, thanks. [SFoodie]
