Redd Wood

Michelin-starred chef Richard Reddington, as you may have heard, is expanding into the pizza business, and this week he opens Redd Wood in downtown Yountville, in the former Cantinetta Piero spot (6774 Washington Street). The place features a sleek design with a few cute touches — including an object of some local lore: the mailbox that stood for years at the entrance to Robert Mondavi’s estate, labeled Wappo Hill, which Reddington procured from Margrit Mondavi herself.

Below, see our slideshow and the opening, sample menu, featuring a selection of wood-fired, tomato- and meat-based pizzas (clam and pork jowl, anyone?), as well as an array of starters, pastas, and entrées. We’re especially intrigued by the fried salt cod with harissa, the stuffed squid, and the rabbit pappardelle. Note that former A16 chef Liza Shaw is now in the kitchen here.

The grand opening is Thursday, January 26, and lunch service will begin February 6.

Menu will change daily. Click to enlarge.
