The L.A. Beerathon is Coming in March

Only something named The Beerathon could get us to even entertain the idea of (ugh) running somewhere. The sustained bar crawl was held in Manhattan over the last five years, and today organizers announce that they’re bringing their sudsy brand of fun to L.A. on March 31st (giving you ample time to train).

Mirroring a 26-mile marathon, the event charts a course of 26 bars spread throughout the city, in which participants will each get the chance to sample a different beer, with bands and DJs filling in some gaps, and a fairly lax attitude about competing.

The course doesn’t appear to be set yet, though Beerathon’s website tells us that it’s going to be planned by “some dude we got totally shitcanned with” a “a certified Beerathon Course Map Veteran,” even if claims that the $55 event will “give the Hollywood Walk of Fame a run for its money,” makes us wonder about the crew’s geographic and demographic standards. It appears to be geared towards college students, in fact, as the information page admits, “If you can’t finish, don’t. It’s important to drink responsibly. Even in your college-prime, you’ll still have difficulty attempting this task.”

Hopefully, organizers take the time to highlight the best of the best in our craft beer bars, while making appropriate adjustments for a swarm of people to drink and travel around Los Angeles. As marathon or not, no one’s walking around here. Fortunately, no actual running is required either (whew!).

The L.A. Beerathon, Saturday, March 31st, 2012. More info. and tickets available online.
