Japadog Opened Yesterday With Much Tinsel, No Lines

Despite predictions of epic queues, Canadian-Asian hot-doggers Japadog bowed at 30 St. Marks Place yesterday sans too much fanfare. Former Grub-ster Daniel Maurer was on the scene for the East Village Local (see his photos here), and while the tinsel and balloons abounded, predicted crowds did not. Oh well, it’s been ghastly cold out, and given the student-central location and the late-night hours, we’re betting this one succeeds. Though whether anyone will want to pay thirteen bucks for its caviar-topped Kobe beef dog seems a bit more up in the air. [East Village Local/NYT, Earlier]
