Did they get a frosty reception in Coolidge Corner? Seems so. The swank bakery, purveyor of pricy cupcakes, cakes and pastries, shuttered its Brookline branch on New Year’s Eve. (Their Park Plaza and Harvard Square outposts will stay open.) Down the street, Friendly’s also shuttered not long ago. Clearly sweets and quasi-Middle-American-fast food aren’t the way to go in Brookline. Instead, how about a smoked-fish bar? A dim sum parlor? A drive-through Island Creek/Eastern Standard combo?
