Guidebook mainstay Dottie’s True Blue Café, with its signature blue and white interior and much-loved ginger-cinnamon pancakes, is set for a rebirth this weekend on the rough-and-tumble skid row we call Sixth Street. As the Scoop reports, they’ve made the interior of the former Passion Café a little cozier and full of stuff than before, and the menu will be pretty much the same as the original, at least to start. With five times the space as before, they’re talking about expanding lunch offerings, but dinner isn’t in the cards just yet.

(Much like at their former, not-so-gentrified locale on Jones Street, avoiding nighttime hours might be wise, since employing a security guard would probably be necessary. Not that we want to dwell on the negative, but just as a point of information, the corner of Sixth and Stevenson, where the restaurant is located, was the site of the city’s first homicide of 2012, a stabbing that occurred last week. But that was really late at night.)

Also, the owners don’t plan to open the roof deck just yet either, but the weather promises to be bad for a while anyway.

On the good news front, the chances of lines down the block are lessened by the far larger seating capacity indoors, but it might take a little longer to get your pancakes until the kitchen gets rolling.

Dottie’s True Blue Café - 28 Sixth Street, at Stevenson - 415.885.2767 - Initial hours: Wednesday through Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Open as of Friday, January 20.
