There are a million beers in the naked city. High ABV, session, barrel-aged, wild fermented, sweet, sour, bitter and just about everything in between. But a truffle beer? It just doesn’t seem right, does it? That’s exactly what Dock Street brewer Scott Morrison came up with for the first in the “A Beer Four All Seasons” series he and the brewery are making with the Four Seasons Hotel. The beer, Truffled Old Ale, was brewed in the British old ale style at the West Philly brewery, and then transported over to the hotel where it was aged in used Chardonnay barrels. Before bottling and conditioning, the brew was laced with winter truffles.

On Monday, January 30 the Truffled Old Ale will be unveiled at the Swann Lounge Bar, where Four Seasons executive chef Rafael Gonzalez will be serving two special dishes to pair with it: a truffle burger with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and sottocenere truffle cheese; and truffle French fries with truffle salt and truffle aioli.

In months to come Dock Street and Four Seasons have plans to brew up three more beers. At least one of which will feature fruit and herbs harvested from the hotel’s rooftop garden.
