Nutritionist Jared Koch’s Clean Plates, a pocket-sized guidebook to restaurants that source responsibly and/or serve natural, very healthy to not-so-bad-for-you cooking, recently launched in L.A. Flipping a time-worn script, the book details restaurants as seemingly disparate as Animal and Cafe Gratitude, highlighting the passion they share for whole foods and prime product. Going an extra mile, the book skips the usual listy endorsements for nuanced critiques of a single dinner from local critics, offering an opinionated view of both the pitfalls and joys inherent in eating out.

Today, Clean Plates L.A. launches a newly polished website, featuring a blog for the city, as well as a brand-new app for iPhone. This new app organizes restaurants by price range, neighborhood, type of cuisine, and dietary needs like “vegan” and “good for carnivores.” The new website currently offers breakdowns on Lindy & Grundy, M Cafe, and organic cocktails around town, while the app is totally risk-free, offered free to all with an iPhone.
