Opening today in the TenderNob is the new grab-and-go daytime spot from the Sons & Daughters team, called Sweet Woodruff (798 Sutter Street). It’s likely to be a welcome addition to the ‘hood where Farm:Table has been the sole, fresh, higher-end sandwich spot to date, and the menu features a few delicious things that are going to be hard for anyone not to like.
There’s a fresh take on a Little Gem salad, with a mixed olive vinaigrette, avocado, beets, and Cara Cara orange suprèmes. A pheasant “hot pocket” that will likely be the best pop-tart-like flaky pastry lunch you’ll have all year. And there’s an excellent looking suckling pig sandwich with ghost-pepper aioli and salsa verde.
The place is named for a favorite garnishing herb of chef-owners Teague Moriarty and Matt McNamara (their kitchen garden, by the way, has now doubled in size to accommodate both restaurants). Running the kitchen is Manresa alum Isaac Miller who’s been working at Sons & Daughters over the last six months. Desserts are being done by S&D; pastry chef Kevin Gravito. Note that for now they’re only open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, but that may change later on.
