Eataly’s Latest Expansion Plans; Mama’s Opens in Brooklyn

Carroll Gardens: Next Tuesday, November 15, Brooklyn Cured teaches a class at 61 Local on amazing ways to make two types of sausage to complement Thanksgiving turkeys: turkey chestnut and chicken apple. Event and ticket info are here.
East Village: Next Saturday, November 19, Back Forty will host an East Coast and West Coast Oyster Fest. (Note: This is not an East vs. West Village oyster face-off, as I’m sure some of you may have hoped.) East Coast entries include Nini-Monos from Ninigret Pond in Charlestown, Rhode Island, and Blackfish Creek oysters from Wellfleet, Massachusetts; shucking from the West Coast include Effinghams from Vancouver Island, B.C., and Totten Virginicus from Totten Inlet, Washington. Cost is $25; advance tickets can be bought here. [Grub Street]
East Village: Life Cafe, which has now been a staple for NYC “Rentheads,” is packing up and moving to Bushwick in the wake of delayed repairs. The future of the café seems bleak. [Local/NYT]

Flatiron: Mario Batali has plans for Eataly’s expansion over the next ten years. In a video, he “wouldn’t be surprised if Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Mexico City [got Eataly locations]; in any order of those four.” [Daily Meal]
Lower East Side: Get $10 pies today only at Forcella’s Pizza’s Bowery location. P.S. the magic words are “ten bucks.” [Grub Street]
Midtown East: New York Central has a new Monday to Friday Happy Hour from 8 to 10 p.m., appropriately named “Ate to Ten.” This means $8 wines, $5 nibbles, and $25 food-and-drink specials named after each of the five boroughs. You’re curious, we know: Manhattan tastes like duck confit and an arugula salad. Wash that down with a glass of Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs. [Grub Street]
Soho: On sale now at 508 GastroBrewery: 64-ounce “growlers” to go. That’s a lot of beer for just one person, so we suggest taking these tummy-rumblers to parties, or gifting them to someone else who could handle the task. [Grub Street]
Tribeca: Bubby’s is hosting a pay-what-you-wantThanksgiving dinner. However, be generous, Grubsters: Portions of the proceeds go to the New York City Rescue Mission, America’s oldest homeless shelter. Call 212-219-0666 to make reservations. [Eater NY]
Upper East Side: For the rest of November, Felice will continue serving ecofriendly Italian wines. This week is sustainable wine week; the next, top sellers and guest favorites. [Grub Street]
West Village: Calling all environmentally conscious foodies: Tomorrow at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, you can learn about the soil of New York City plant life; then, taste edible data visualizations of what the future of these soil structures hold. The best part: The event itself is dirt-cheap, i.e., free. [Grub Street]
Williamsburg: We hear that the East Village’s resident comfort-food spot Mama’s has a new location in Brooklyn. (Thanks, old Grub editor Daniel!) [Local/NYT]
