Eataly’s Latest Expansion Plans; Mama’s Opens in Brooklyn

East Village: Next Saturday, November 19, Back Forty will host an East Coast and West Coast Oyster Fest. (Note: This is not an East vs. West Village oyster face-off, as I’m sure some of you may have hoped.) East Coast entries include Nini-Monos from Ninigret Pond in Charlestown, Rhode Island, and Blackfish Creek oysters from Wellfleet, Massachusetts; shucking from the West Coast include Effinghams from Vancouver Island, B.C., and Totten Virginicus from Totten Inlet, Washington. East Village: Life Cafe, which has now been a staple for NYC “Rentheads,” is packing up and moving to Bushwick in the wake of delayed repairs. The future of the café seems bleak. [Local/NYT]

Flatiron: Mario Batali has plans for Eataly’s expansion over the next ten years. In a video, he “wouldn’t be surprised if Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Mexico City [got Eataly locations]; in any order of those four.” [Daily Meal]

Midtown East: New York Central has a new Monday to Friday Happy Hour from 8 to 10 p.m., appropriately named “Ate to Ten.” This means $8 wines, $5 nibbles, and $25 food-and-drink specials named after each of the five boroughs.
