We say yes. Here at Grub Street, we have always sung the praises of Burlington, home to such grocery institutions as Market Basket and H Mart, as well as improbably perched restaurants like Summer Winter and Jamie Mammano’s L’Andana, both of which deserve credit for bringing fine dining to a landscape dotted with Chili’s, Applebee’s, and (fittingly?) Casual Male XL. Anyway, now a Wegmans is coming to town, and you know what that means: All hell will break loose. Tasty, delicious hell.
The Globe reports that developers plan to whip the 285-acre cube-farm known as Northwest Park into “something of a culinary mecca. The main street would feature restaurants run by local chefs and other original dining options that are typically hard to find in the suburbs.” A fire-pit-equipped Wegmans, which caused a huge stir when it opened in Northboro a few weeks ago, will anchor the (dare we say down-home?) development. Also on the roster: a high-end burger restaurant (Tasty Burger, maybe? They’re looking to expand) and a branch of the Lyons Group-owned Kings bowling alley.
Aside from the Wegmans, developers say that they refuse to contemplate any chains. (We’ll believe it when we see it, but sounds nice in theory.) And, in the meantime, we’ll content ourselves with those killer deals at MB and the killer food stalls at H Mart.
