Last year the Boston Beer Company, maker of Samuel Adams, collaborated with Germany’s Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery, to create a magical brew called Infinium. Everyone was so excited! The special-edition concoction was supposed to taste of champagne and have the mouthfeel of beer. Instead, as the Atlantic lamented, “Many reviewers considered it one of the worst releases of the year … It just didn’t taste very good.” Will this year be different?
Maybe so. At least, we can dream. The Globe’s 99 Bottles blog reminds us that the new version was dry hopped with Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops, “which should give Infinium a more pronounced citrus character.” In other words, they redid the recipe and hopefully this year’s version will actually taste good.
Boston Beer Company will debut the beer at a tasting on Thursday night (which is sold out), but if you just can’t wait to see if this year’s version is better than the 2010 effort, you can also buy the stuff at their JP headquarters beginning Thursday as well. It’ll appear on shelves next week, just in time for your Thanksgiving shopping. Once you’ve tried it, let us know what you think!
