Over the summer we mentioned that Fond’s pastry chef and co-owner Jessie Prawlucki was bringing a bakery to East Passyunk Ave., just north of Dickinson Street and across from Pub on Passyunk East. This afternoon, Prawlucki finally opened the doors to what she’s calling Belle Cakery. As its name suggests, the cozy shop specializes in cakes, but features a daily selection of other sweets and pastries. “It’s mostly going to be special and custom order cakes,” Prawlucki told Grub Street. “But we also have a storefront, so people can come in sample some things and get an idea of what they could potentially order.”

She adds that the cakes will be “more focused on flavor” as opposed to being giant, edible objets d’art. So don’t expect any Charm City monstrous creations.

In addition to her specialty cakes, Prawlucki will offer a variety of desserts, cookies, truffles and her signature hazelnut brittle. She also has espresso for now, but hopes to include coffee and a wider array of pastries in the near future.
