A ruling in a federal court in Oakland is setting the stage for a possible statewide overhaul of 220 Taco Bell locations, based on findings in a ten-year-old suit filed by disabled patrons and disability rights advocates. The judge ruled this week that Taco Bell had failed to meet the state’s ADA requirements relating to the heaviness of entry doors, the height of tables and chairs, the height of disabled-access toilet seats, and even the height of drink lid dispensers, as the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The judge wrote that the chain “is not currently following its own access policies, and has a history of not doing so.” Taco Bell, for their part, is now trying to limit the scope of the injunction, based on a recent Supreme Court ruling dealing with class action lawsuits.
