No, that’s not a typo! It’s how the Belgian owners’ spelled it: Palatte. Either way, the cute, frites-filled, artsy spot closed a few months ago at 66 Madison Avenue, leaving a perfectly good space by Madison Square Park open for … anything besides more burgers, please. Grub can now confirm that Shorty’s, the Philly cheesesteak empire that claims to offer the only “authentic” South Philly–style sandwiches in New York, has assumed the lease and will be moving in any day now. Let the best-cheesesteak-ever debate begin.
