Sadface: Funky Rancho Parnassus Shutters on Sixth Street

The eclectically decorated Rancho Parnassus at 132 Sixth Street (at Minna) has closed after about a year and change, as LiveSOMA is reporting. The owner had hinted as early as March that he was struggling and pleaded with the local community to make the trek down the sketchiest stretch of Sixth Street, apparently to no avail. The open-air drug market directly across the street and the generally loony vibe of that block certainly didn’t help matters for this café cum gallery cum community gathering space. And as the owner of Passion Café, a little closer to Market Street, can tell you, it only takes one violent altercation with a cracky thief to make you rethink your pioneering spirit.
