While scores of Philly’s hungry descended on Federal Donuts yesterday like Allied troops storming the beaches of Normandy to get their first bites in, rumors floated that the new donuts and chicken fryer-ey would begin taking reservations for the dough that makes up its elusive ’nuts. Though a similar strategy has worked out fine for decades at Tacconelli’s, the folks behind the Fed quickly shot it down. But the offer to stage a pop-up with Mark Coates in his Smoke Truck remains up in the air. Like yesterday, the donuts started becoming scarce at 9:17 a.m. this morning, and since the chicken, which sold out in less than an hour on opening day, takes more than 24 hours to prepare, it won’t be available until noon today. Get it while if you can.
