Blind Pig Doesn’t Quite Reach Its Potential; Dueling Ribs at Twisted Tail Duel For ‘Worst In Show’

• Brian Freedman sizes up still newish NoLibs watering hole Blind Pig’s menu and opines that the food is “decent to good, but not quite reaching its potential.” The T-Day balls he writes “miss their target,” but the breaded coating is “perfectly turned-out” and “shattered at tooth’s edge.” The “well-assembled poutine,” he adds “came a lot closer to hitting its notes,” and a smoked beer tomato broth “provided a nice tub within which well-steamed mussels could luxuriate.” [PW]

• At Headhouse Square “juke joint” Twisted Tail, Adam Erace can’t decide “which is worse” “the service or the food?” Primal oysters “were like shriveled gray prunes.” The buttermilk-fried chicken sandwich “lacked flavor,” and the “dueling ribs” “dueled only for worst in show.” [Citypaper]

• Phyllis Stein-Novack “slid into a roomy booth” with Edward at NoLibs newcomer Kings Oak for brunch and gives the heavy-on-the-Lea-&-Perrins Bloody Mary a solid “C.” Though Edward’s piled high with ingredients French Toast “lacked eye appeal,” “he liked it.” Phyllis’ royal feast, two pancakes, home fries, a choice of breakfast meat, toast and two eggs any style, was “less than mediocre.” [South Philly Review]

• Midtown Lunch checks out Eraserhood haunt Jose’s Mexican Food, and relishes what’s declared “the best non fried fish taco” in Philly. [Midtown Lunch]
