The anticipation has nearly gotten the best of us, but now we can officially announce, via a press release this morning, that L.A.’s Umami Burger is opening its first San Francisco location on October 7 at 2184 Union Street (the former Jovino). Owner Adam Fleischman says he’ll be tweaking his SoCal-originating menu a bit to use local purveyors, and adding local craft brews to the list as well. But obviously the super-secret recipe for the signature Umami Burger itself shall remain the same, leaving us and Jonathan Gold guessing what’s behind the deliciousness.

As for the earlier reported, multiple Bay Area locations in the works, Fleischman informs the Chron that both the Mission and Oakland deals fell through. So the company’s putting all its stock in this first S.F. location for now, and “treating it like it’s our first restaurant.”

Look for the new, NorCal-inspired menu to be unveiled next week. (And also look for a little rivalry to start up as burgeoning local chain Super Duper opens their Marina location, in the former Johnny Rockets, nearby at 2201 Chestnut Street. That should be happening within a month or two.)
