Many a time Grub has found ourself leaving the vicinity of Chelsea Market and craving a cocktail, with few options nearby save the always-jammed Raines Law Room. Well, that’s changed with the addition of the Tippler, a project of the Tippling Bros. cocktail group and China Club’s Michael Barrett, now serving drinks on 15th Street near Ninth Avenue. You’ll recall that we told you a while back about the historic basement space and its fifteen-foot vaulted ceilings, not to mention frozen “lushies.” Those come in varieties like a Sazerac and a “Screaming Greenie” absinthe-laced version. As for regular quaffs, we can vouch for the smoky, spicy Dizzy Oaxacan, a Mercadito Miami import that we sampled at the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. There’s also a food menu of crudos, toasts, pickles, and other boozing-friendly fare. Open from 5 p.m. daily; see the full drink menu below.
