Here at Grub Street, we’re big fans of the Somerville Vinnys — Vinny’s at Night, which figured prominently in our pasta slideshow, and the slightly more upscale Lil’ Vinny’s. Both places sling killer red sauce; both places attract patrons who are spicier than fra diavlo; and the parking situation is way better than anything in the North End. Today we got word that Lil’ Vinny’s now serves lunch Wednesday through Saturday. On the menu: paninis, chicken marsala, house-made pastas, veal and meatball parmigiana, and a “Sloppy Joey” involving house-made bolognese, pancetta, and fontina. Our only woe? Lil’ Vinny’s is deep in the heart of Somerville, not exactly a nine-to-fivers’ paradise, which is really part of the charm. So we plan to carbo-fix on Saturday. They’re open from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
