At the peak of the Labor Day weekend tourist frenzy on Fisherman’s Wharf, at 7:30 p.m. last Saturday, the entire kitchen staff at 95-year-old Castagnola’s (286 Jefferson Street) walked off the job in protest of some recent changes by management. As the Chron reports this morning, the restaurant could not meet the same employee demands that are being met by nearby chains like the Rainforest Café and Bubba Gump’s, and they had instituted longer shifts for workers as well as a new menu. In response to the walkout, the restaurant fired and replaced the entire kitchen.
