The L.A. Times reports that Las Vegas’ Fukuburger is looking to an October 1st opening in Hollywood. The Japanese burger truck will go brick and mortar on Cahuenga Bouelvard, with the financial support of Pink Taco’s Harry Morton, and plans to start out with six burgers, beer, sake, and wine, and flat-screen TVs that make you feel like you’re back in the truck. But that’s not all. This budding chain is going big right from the get-go, planning five to ten more Fukuburger locations in L.A., with the second already planned in Little Tokyo next spring. We’re starting to think Harry Morton is just jealous of Sam Nazarian and his Umami Burger deal (you know how envious these uber-rich kids get with their fancy toys). But more importantly, how is the food at Fukuburger?
We spoke with one L.A. transplant who recently moved from Sin City to find out what she thought of Colin Fukunaga and Robert Magsalin’s Japanese burger venture. She tells us, “It’s one of, if not the best, truck in Vegas. Colin and Mags really got it right with the concept and the burgers rock. There are a few copycat trucks, but Fuku is the real deal.”
We’ll all get the chance to judge for ourselves on October 1st in Hollywood. For his part, Morton already claims the Fukuburger receives more love during production than Umami’s does. And we’re pretty sure he’s not just giving The Times a gilded version of “I have bigger blocks at home” this time.
