While some loathe it and others love it, the only thing about Restaurant Week that we’re truly sure about is that it happens twice a year and with it comes a host of unsanctioned alternatives. And this time around — it kicks off today — it seems as if Stephen Starr and Jose Garces are the first out of the gate to buck the two weeks of dining deals with their own rogue specials. This week Starr’s Pizzeria Stella is bringing back its “Pizza Week,” offering salad, pizza and dessert for $25. Across town, the Iron Chef is accepting reservations for the first time ever at his notoriously impossibly-difficult-to-get-a-seat Village Whiskey.
Coinciding with Restaurant Week, the corner spot will take first-call, first-booked reservations for parties up to six at its tables from today through Friday, and again from Sunday through the end of next week. After Restaurant Week wraps, Village Whiskey will go back to its no reservations policy.
