After Curtis Duffy’s Exit, Avenues Closes

They were big shoes to fill, and, in the end, Avenues decided not to fill them. After Curtis Duffy — the chef that led the restaurant to two Michelin stars last year — cooked his last meal in the kitchen on Saturday, Avenues in The Peninsula shut down. The restaurant left this message on its website: “Avenues announces a new chapter in 2012 as the restaurant undergoes a renovation and an exciting new concept. Please look for details in 2012.”

The message seems purposefully vague, and it’s totally unclear whether the restaurant will reopen next year as a reconceptualized Avenues or as something completely different. Either way, it’s kind of a sad end to a great restaurant, which was once also the home of Graham Elliot before he left to open his eponymous restaurant. We’ll keep you updated when we hear more.
