Top Chef alum Jen Carroll and her pastry chef Monica Glass, are turning up the heat on the monthly industry party that the Vetri crew hosts at Amis. For tonight’s installment, the two 10 Arts gals are bringing a “down the shore” vibe with what’s being dubbed “Sex on the Beach with Jen Carroll”. The ribald concept was originally going to be billed as a much tamer “Under the Boardwalk with Jen Carroll,” but as the brainstorming session devolved into needling and wisecracking, the more licentious-sounding name won favor. “It’s just a tongue-in-cheeky thing that we’re trying to have fun with,” Carroll told Grub Street. “We are all in the business and we’re all serious all the time. We’re just trying to have some fun.”
Amis chef Brad Spence and the Vetri crew will put out a spread, complete with spaghetti and crabs (Marc Vetri’s favorite Jersey shore dish) and pots of steamers. For her part, Carroll is bringing fried clams and fried chicken (expect plenty of breasts, thighs and legs jokes). And Monica Glass will contribute housemade ice cream sandwiches and other more provocative frozen treats. As an added bonus a Mister Softee truck will be parked outside. As always, the food is free, and the drinks are cheap, but only those who can produce a recent pay stub from a restaurant will be admitted.
