The Chron Bows Down Before Alice

The Lady Waters, aglow.

This coming weekend brings the big, multi-pronged celebration of Chez Panisse’s 40th birthday, and yesterday’s Chronicle went hog-wild with adoring tributes to the restaurant and the woman behind it. A lengthy profile of Ms. Waters contains the admission, among others, that “Though Waters was never truly in the kitchen, the goat cheese salad was all hers.” Also, there’s a review of the anniversary book, 40 Years of Chez Panisse: The Power of Gathering; a tribute to the restaurant’s wine program (and Waters’ enduring love for Bandol rosé); and a list of chefs who have worked there, which appears not to have been published online yet. Let this week of Chez Panisse gushing begin!
