Seeing Pink Over Gage & Tollner Space

Pink walls: not cool.

Remember those hot-pink walls now adorning the historic space where Gage & Tollner once stood? Well, they’re not just ugly, but they might be illegal. According to the Post, inspectors from the Landmark Preservation Commission served the owners of garish Ladies & Gents jewelry store with papers informing them they must apply for permits to keep the pink partitions up, since they’re just inches from the building’s historic walls. That happened August 18, and the jewelry-store owners have twenty days from that date to secure permission or they risk a $5,000 fine. Unfortunately, as you know, this is not the first instance of hideousness in the space, which has spent stints as an Arby’s and a T.G.I.Friday’s since Gage & Tollner closed. We’ll see what happens with this latest kerfuffle in the next week. [NYP, Earlier]
