We just learned that Rubb BBQ, the mobile smokehouse from Manayunk’s Belvedere Business Group (the same folks behind the Main Street Market, Agiato and Terrace Taproom, and a currently on hold bricks and mortar punk rock barbecue joint) is a last minute entrant in Saturday’s Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox Barbecue Challenge at Citizens Bank Park. Belvedere’s Robert Nydick told Grub Street that they’re bringing their pig-smokin’ rig to the ballpark to face off against the other 45 pit master and 15 restaurant teams competing for the title of ‘Best Barbecue.’ Also participating are a bunch of Starr restaurants (Alma De Cuba, El Rey and Continental Midtown among them), as well as teams from South Philly’s Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill, London Grill and Famous Dave’s. You can get a taste of all the barbecue for $5. All proceeds benefit Garry’s Youth Golf & Academics Program, which supports the education and development of children who reside in troubled city neighborhoods.
