Homeslice’s New Owners Dispel Fears of an Eastside vs Westside Turf Battle on Liberties Walk

Don’t worry, there isn’t a Biggie and Tupac-like East vs West dust-up brewing on Liberties Walk near the Piazza. Last week, when Citypaper’s A.D. Amorosi wrote that ex-club promoter Jack “Boogi” Stroman and DJ Ari Saxe (aka DJ Train) were now holding down Homeslice (they took it over from A Full Plate’s Shannon Dougherty and Liz Petersen in July) on “Liberties Walk West,” we feared for the worst. Westside thugs warring with East Siders from Bar Ferdinand and further points East. But alas our fears were put to rest after catching up with Homeslice homie, Ari Saxe. “No, no it’s nothing like that,” Saxe told Grub Street. “Jack, my partner, came up with it, because we have such a hard time explaining to people where we are.”

Since Homeslice sits almost two blocks in from the Second Street side of developer Bart Blatstein’s sweeping re-imagining of the Northern Liberties landscape, Saxe explained that folks often times don’t realize that there are more restaurants and businesses that far down Liberties Walk. He said that by adding the word West to their location, people will likely wander down to that end of the Walk.

Other than switching up the name of their location, Saxe and Stroman have been upping the ante on Homeslice’s menu, too. They’ve beefed up the vegan and vegetarian offerings, which are popular with the meatless clientele they draw, as well as meaty cheesesteaks, burgers and, of course, pizza.
