The numbers aren't quite tallied yet, but restaurants and stores tell Crain's that all the record-breaking sales from Friday's excessive and panicked purchases were canceled out by having to close shop over the weekend. Plus, there were extra expenses like at Murray's Cheese, where they cabbed all their employees home after the subway was shut down, and Astor Wine & Spirits who lost thousands of dollars in nonexistent delivery orders for canceled events like weddings. Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality had to throw away a lot of food, and is trying to see if insurance will cover it, saying, “It's too soon to tell what's covered or not." [Crain's]
