Author, booze blogger and sworn enemy of the PLCB Lew Bryson is cutting through all the political grandstanding that’s been at the heart of the ongoing privatization debate, and asking some serious questions about how proposed measures to remove the state from the business of liquor sales will all play out. On his Why The PLCB Should Be Abolished blog this week, Bryson has posted a poll that asks readers to weigh in which issues concern them most. They range from big-retailer dominance in the market, and what cronies will score the most licenses to taxes and what the impact of having twice as many liquor retailers will have on communities. So far, many of these issues have gone ignored while the promise of better booze prices and a wider selection of products keeps getting pushed to the front of the debate. Surprisingly bad wholesaler legislation impeding future product selection and political cronies gobbling up all the licenses appear to be readers’ top concerns. [noplcb]
