For the second time this year, Bar Tartine is temporarily shuttered this week as ongoing work moves forward on the next-door bakery and sandwich shop, as the Scoop reports. They will reopen for dinner on Saturday, August 20. The restaurant previously closed at the end of April in order to connect the new next-door space, formerly a luggage store, to make a new dining area and lounge. This same space will double in the daytime as the front part of a new bakery and sandwich shop with a Central and Eastern European focus, which owners Chad and Elizabeth Robertson and chef Nick Balla hope to have open by October. (This week marks the installation of a 15,000 pound bread oven in back, which needs to have its own foundation poured.) As earlier reported, the team is also still mulling a name-change, in order to distinguish the Hungarian-leaning restaurant from the popular bakery at 18th and Guerrero.
