With Food Trucks Coming to Fenway, What Will Happen to the Sausage Vendors?

After all the brouhaha surrounding red tape and food trucks, Boston has clearly come around and embraced the vendors-on-wheels. So much so, in fact, that Fenway has been approved as the latest food-truck hot-spot, per the Globe.

Yes, the line-up sounds great: Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, Staff Meal, The Cupcakory, Grilled Cheese Nation, and the ubiquitous Clover. But what does this mean for the friendly (and not so friendly!) sausage and hot-dog slingers we’ve come to love? With Staff Meal on-site serving up pickled veal tongue and Clover slinging playing fast and loose with veggies, are you going to want to bite into a rubbery hot dog? Or could there be a food-truck backlash, with Fenway loyalists craving old-fashioned ballpark fare?

Moreover: Much has been made about Fenway’s new upscale fare, including sushi, fresh seafood, and cocktails (cocktails!). In fact, the Improper just declared that Fenway Park is the best place to sup pre-game. But will anybody want to pay top dollar for sushi when there’s perfectly delicious, cheap grilled cheese available right outside the park?

Time will tell; according to the Globe story, trucks could hit the streets “as early as July.”
