When it comes to local tasting events, we’ve just about slogged through them all. Hands down we find East L.A. Meets Napa one of the most thrilling and best executed; A pairing that pits Latino-owned Northern California wineries with a few of L.A.’s favorite restaurants. The fiesta pops off again next Friday at 6:00 P.M. in Union Station, with $200 tickets available online. Who will be there?

This year finds the return of classics like Loteria, La Parilla, Phlight, Porto’s, La Luna, Homegirl, Birreria El Chalio, El Cholo, Rivera, Casita Mexicana, Attila The Flan, and El Tepeyac. Newcomers include Richard Sandoval’s La Sandia, Mas Malo, and Guisado’s. Guelaguetza and Palate will be missed this year.

Last year saw a sneak peek of Steve Arroyo’s Escuela, while John Sedlar presided over his famous flower petal tortillas at this fundraiser for AltaMed. This year sees a celebration for In Their Own Words a book that looks at Latino contributions to the U.S. wine-making industry.
