We recently showed you what an ancient Roman feast kindasorta looked like through a dinner and lecture at The Getty Villa. On August 18th, ArtBites will explore the role and contents of historic meals in Islamic society, with a combination history lesson and cooking class called “Gifts of the Sultans: The Arts of Giving at the Islamic Courts.” Lead by ArtBites’ founder, chef, and historian Maite Gomez-Rejón, the class will uncover the preparation and rituals related to dining in Islam with a tour at LACMA, before a cooking class at the organization’s kitchen, where a royal meal will be cooked and consumed, with the not very Islamic addition of wine. The tour, cooking class, and meal is priced at $100, with reservations available online.
