Like just about everything else, Philly’s been slow to catch on to this food truck thing. Maybe that would explain why PW devoted its cover story this week to the finalists competing in this weekend’s inaugural Vendy Awards, even though the trend as a whole probably peaked about this time last year. But then again, people here still think swing dancing and martinis are cool. If anything, the piece, which has several writers weighing in on the trucks and what they serve — yeah, we already know that Guapos Tacos is awesome and expensive — shows that the city has amassed a pretty impressive fleet of food trucks in just a short amount of time. Of the eight trucks profiled, five were hatched in the last year. And thankfully, only one is a cupcake truck! [PW]
