Nick & Stef’s Joins L.A.’s Sausage Party

Just witness what Wurstkuche hath wrought! In February, we saw sausages overtake Korean tacos on the food truck scene, while 2011 has ushered in a procession of new biergartens and German signage involving words like wurst, haus, and stein. While the block-sized Lincoln Blvd. location of Wurstkuche is still under construction, waiting to change the game on the Westside, we see that even the fine-dining veterans at Patina are getting in on L.A.’s sausage fest.

Tonight a href=”http://losangeles.menupages.com/restaurants/nick-stefs-steakhouse/”>Nick & Stef’s executive chef, Megan Logan, begins a new night of al fresco grilling called “Girl and a Grill” on the restaurant’s patio. The Izzard-ian title reflects the simple concept here. Logan will raid the restaurant’s walk-in and throw various cuts and critters on the grill, allowing customers to hang out with her while munching on oysters, shrimp, chicken, ribs, and steak, all priced between eight to fourteen bucks. The option for five-dollar sides like veggie skewers, corn on the cob, spicy coleslaw, and pasta salad is also availabel. The event will recur every Thursday from 5:00-9:00 P.M. and tonight finds indie rock tribute band The Black Crystal Wolf Kids kicking out the jams while kicking off the event.

But back to the wieners. Starting at 3:00 P.M., Monday to Friday, Nick & Stef’s has a new sausage and beer menu that pairs gourmet links with Californian and Italian beers, providing a casual, happy-hour friendly entry to this upscale steakhouse. The wieners come on a baguette with fries, and the selection will see some changes in the weeks to come. The sausages refreshingly do their own thing, avoiding the whole game-meat Wurstkuche rip-off with preparations like a duck and orange fennel confit sausage that pushes these ideal drinking bites to a higher level.
