Mission Street Food Book Reviewed a Month Early

The aforementioned Mission Street Food book isn’t due out until mid-August (the McSweeney’s store is currently promising to ship pre-ordered books in late July), but the Chron gets a jump on things with a brief review by Amanda Gold. She writes that the conversational style of married co-authors Anthony Myint and Karen Liebowitz is “simultaneously self-deprecating and slightly smug,” and that some of the recipes, like one that deals with ten pounds of beef, are kind of impractical for the home cook. But the recipes are beside the point in this memoir of a seminal pop-up, and “it’s the photos, comic strip and occasional foul language that make this such a fun read.” You can still pre-order it from McSweeney’s for $30, with $10 of that being a donation to Slow Food USA. Or you can get it from Amazon for $19.
