John-Carlos Kuramoto Named Exec Chef at Michael’s

Michael’s has a new executive chef in the kitchen to replace Mikey Stern, the newest in a long line of staff that has included Jonathan Waxman, Nancy Silverton, Mark Peel, and Sang Yoon in the past. 23-year-old John-Carlos Kuramoto’s most recent experiences found him working at Michael Mina in Vegas and Animal and Providence here at home. According to the restaurant, Kuramoto’s audition involved creating a twelve-course tasting menu for owner Michael McCarty and he is already introducing new dishes, including a spiced Sonoma duck confit and Snake River Kurobuta chop.
