Is Sun & Moon Cafe Turning Into Another South Bay Gastro-Pub?

We’ve heard recent talk that Sun & Moon Cafe, Manhattan Beach’s momentarily hot Asian fusion and sushi spot where beer bongs are provided and one self-appointed “Iron Chef” Tommy Dang (well, we don’t recall seeing him on the show) runs the roost, is on its way to becoming a new gastro-pub in Manhattan Beach. Beside Darren’s and across from Manhattan Beach Post, the space has supposedly been snapped up to bring “upscale” gastro-pub eats to the beach. Make that more gastro-pub eats to the beach, as the South Bay is noticeably awash in exciting new restaurants, with most of them based around this hyphenated term, or at least what owners have come to interpret as a “gastro-pub.”

During a recent drive-by, we saw Sun & Moon still in full swing, but today the restaurant is not picking up the phone and has no outgoing message, which is a little peculiar for a restaurant on Manhattan Beach’s main drag towards the end of lunchtime, but we digress…Now that David Lefevre and Neal Fraser have set up shop in town and South Bay is enjoying refreshing new concepts like The Standing Room and Oliver’s Cafe, it will be interesting to see if any new project can hold its own or is more likely to sizzle briefly before flaming out in the South Bay pan. Stay tuned!
