Bites On Broadway, Oakland’s Newest Street Food Fest, Shut Down By Police

Whoops! It looks like that Bites on Broadway food-truck gathering we told you about at the Oakland Technical High School in Temescal was operating without a permit and got shut down by police, just as they were setting up last Friday. Organizer Karen Hester, who had plans to host the event every Friday through October, says she had the informal support of the city and the OPD. But at least one neighborhood complaint and an ordinance on the Oakland books that doesn’t allow food trucks to gather, caused police to “very apologetically” come to shut things down, according to the East Bay Express. Hester has hopes that they might reappear, but will the bites still be on or near Broadway? Hard to say. [East Bay Express]
