While in Town, John Mariani Plans to, Well … Go to Towne

John Mariani is here tonight to chat about his new tome, How Italian Food Conquered the World. Fittingly, he’ll celebrate at BiNA, with a signing, discussion, and Q&A.; But he’s also branching out beyond Italy while visiting our fair city.

He tells Boston that when it comes to Italian cooking, we “picked up the meatball and ran with it,” (moment of silence for Todd English, whose “gutsy, lusty food” helped pave the way). But Mariani also wants to try some non-Italian food while here. On the itinerary: much-adored Bondir, Michael Leviton’s brand-new Area Four, Michael Schlow’s somewhat new Tico, and Lydia Shire and Jasper White’s not-so-new Towne. A diverse roster to be sure. We’re hoping for White’s sake that Mariani appreciates his food more than Martha Stewart did!
