Today the Food and Drug Administration released a special report called Pathway to Global Product Safety and Quality (PDF). The takeaway from the report: America is importing a lot of food (and even more drugs), and it’s really tricky to keep track of it all! But they’re trying! The Times cites this statistic from the report: “Just a decade ago, 6 million shipments of FDA-regulated goods passed through the nation’s 300 ports of entry. This year the number will quadruple to 24 million shipments.” But hey! You know what’s going to make the job even tougher? The FDA’s newly diminished budget. It’s okay, though. Our food supply is already, like, pretty safe. [NYT]
