Sam Sifton Would Like You to Stop Talking About Where You ‘Source’ Your Ingredients, Please

As in, he wants everyone to stop using the word “source” as a transitive verb. Per his Twitter: “Just so we’re clear on this? Source should never have been allowed to become a verb.” And, when Steve Cuozzo followed up, wondering if Mr. Sifton meant in a food sense or a journalism sense, the Times restaurant critic clarified: “We have sources in journalism. But we buy our fish. We shouldn’t source it. And that’s my verbiage on that.” Which is interesting, given the man’s usual way with words. [Sam Sifton/Twitter]
