In the past few years, Illinois has seen a boom in locally made liquors. One of the most prominent has been North Shore Distillery, which produces gin, vodka, absinthe, and even aquavit. While many of Chicago’s best bars have already found noble ways to use the spirits — here is our favorite — until now it was impossible to taste them straight from the factory. Luckily, the Illinois House recently changed the liquor laws, and Lake Bluff just followed suit. This all means that the North Shore Distillery will start giving tours and even open its own tasting room on June 10.

According to the distillery, in the tasting room you’ll be able to sample the latest creations, ask booze-related questions, and even “potentially” get a cocktail. It will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Fridays, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

Distillery tours will be available at select times on Fridays and Saturdays, and cost $10 per person. The tour includes a look around the distillery, and a tasting of up to five different spirits. It is recommended that you reserve a spot in advance, as they will be limited to 15 people. E-mail the company directly at tours@northshoredistillery.com, or simply call them at 847-574-2499.
