Brian McGrory tells us that he’s hired Christopher Rendell, the chef de cuisine at Double Crown (and before that a sous-chef at Public) as executive chef of his two restaurants, Highlands and Mary Queen of Scots. Rendell is an Australian who picked up an affinity for Asian cuisine while working under another Aussie, Thai food guru David Thompson, but here he’ll be returning to the sort of “modern British” cooking he specialized in as head chef at the Mews of Mayfair in London. He’s not the only Double Crowner that McGrory (himself a Double Crown alum) has picked up: Pastry chef Ryan Butler is also coming aboard.
