Gingerfruit Opens Tonight, Wiping the Yelp Slate Clean After Pudong

We mentioned earlier that the short-lived Pudong was going to be reincarnated, in situ at 2029 Market Street, as something called Gingerfruit. The second try by the team behind Pudong to revive the former Mecca space will be more pan-Asian and tapas-y, as the Scoop reports, with a mix of influences from southeast Asia, Japanese izakayas, and Spanish tapas. They admit that the name “pudong” didn’t go over so well with “the community,” but unfortunately have not done anything more with the stale interior. They’ve got a new chef though, Shawn Baraboo, who’s recently worked at Sudachi and Leopold’s. Also, they’ll be doing a $4 cocktail happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., and they’ll be open until 1 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday. [Scoop]
